The seminar entitled “Goal 16 and the Role of National Human Rights Institutions” wishes to open the debate on the role of these important actors in the implementation of Goal 16. In particular, the seminar will focus on a recent report by the Fundamental Rights Agency which analysed the role of NHRIs, highlighting the absence of an NHRI in Italy (the only EU state to be currently in default). The relevance of the role of NHRIs in protecting rights is highlighted by the fact that the presence of an NHRI in a state is an indicator for measuring target 16.a on “Strengthening National Institutions to Prevent Violence and Combat Terrorism and Crime”.
