During his closing Remarks on the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), the UN Secretary-General announced a high-level meeting, dedicated to financing the 2030 Agenda. The meeting will be held on September 24, 2018 in New-York. It aims at discussing a new vision for financing the SDGs that “extends beyond short-term political cycles and aims to mobilise the full range of resources – public and private, domestic and international”. Achieving the SDGs will require a shift towards long-term investment horizons and sustainability as a driving concern of investment decisions.
The discussion will be focused on developing the incentive mechanisms for a greater sustainable investment, particularly in underfinanced sectors and in least developed countries and other countries in special situations.
Since finance for sustainable development is not being mobilized at the scale that would be needed, the meeting is expected to identify what is blocking and keep momentum.
