The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The internship is with the Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) Team at UNEP, Economy Division, Paris, France. It is to start on 1 February 2021 and is for a duration of six months. Please do not apply if you are not available for the whole duration of the internship, at the set time and date.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work 35 hours five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Under the direct supervision of the Programmer Officer, the intern will assist with the implementation of sustainable public procurement activities. Notably, the intern will assist with communication activities and liaising with partners. Daily responsibilities may vary depending on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Assisting in research-based tasks associated with the SPP projects
Conducting editorial reviews of project documents
Organizing and updating presentations
Working on web development and online presentation of materials and keeping the SPP programmes’ websites up-to-date with regard to new publications, new partners and other events
Liaising with contacts from the SDG 12.7 project
Managing mailing lists, social networks and networks of experts and professionals
Keeping the programme’s partners informed on upcoming events through a monthly update
Keeping track of, and regularly updating, the partners’ contact database and the corresponding mailing lists
Drafting executive summarizing for reports produced under the UN Environment SPP programmes
Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings, including providing technical assistance during virtually-held meetings (webinars)
Assisting with other tasks associated with the implementation of the SPP team’s projects,
Contributing to the ongoing improvement of intern training tools and guidelines

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree.
Be computer literate in standard software applications.
Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
